Get to Know Elaine, Our Pageant Queen
What’s the story behind your name?
My name is Elaine Rose Ficarra. Elaine is my grandma’s name on my dad’s side. My middle name, Rose, is short for Rosalina, after my grandma on my mom’s side. Ficarra is passed down from my dad’s side of the family. They’re from Italy.
Where are your roots?
I am 50% Filipino (mom’s side). And the other half is of many European cultures: 25% Italian, 6.25% Irish, 12.5% Dutch, 6.25% Scottish (that’s my dad).
If someone was visiting your hometown, what are the top things to see, eat, and do?
I have lived in Chester county, Pennsylvania, specifically in the town of Glenmoore my whole life. I’ve seen deer in my backyard and running across roads. Not far from here, you can go see the Amish country, where the people live very simply, without electricity, and they travel by horse and buggy. In the other direction, is the city of Philadelphia. Here it’s popular to eat the famous Philly cheesesteak, but people also eat other ethnic foods. It’s also common to travel to Hershey, the sweetest place on earth! They have roller coasters and loads of chocolate to eat! Another place that is a must-see is Marsh Creek, where I enjoy going every summer. It has the most beautiful scenery, and it’s a great place to have a picnic, go swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more!
Where on 🌍 have you been and what place was your fave?
I’ve traveled along the east coast of the United States, Tennessee, and California. I’ve also been to Canada, the Bahamas, and the Philippines! My favorite has had to be the Philippines. I went there once last year with my family for my Lola’s 80th birthday and, of course, for the Diskubre tour this year!
Last year, I enjoyed visiting my mom’s hometown––Pugo, La Union, where I met a lot of my family for the first time, had a courtesy call with the mayor and participate in some philanthropic work. I even visited a high school to give an inspirational speech. That was cool! I was even able to go to Pugad with my cousins, which is a beautiful resort to swim and kayak.
Name a fun fact about yourself or secret talent that you have.
A fun fact about my myself is that I’m a pageant girl! Being a part of the Miss America organization, we promote the four points of the crown: style, scholarship, service, and success. I also am able to be an advocate of my platform, Youth Empowerment, and share my passion for singing and taekwondo, as I’m a second degree black belt! I currently hold the title of Miss State Capitol’s Outstanding Teen 2018, so I represent the Harrisburg area of Pennsylvania. I even held the titles of Miss PAFCOM of New Jersey and Miss Diwa Ng Kalayaan of New York.

Describe your ideal date scenario.
For an ideal date, I imagine sitting by a beautiful lake on a warm day next to a guy. We would eat delicious food on a picnic, and talk about everything and anything: share laughs and stories. Then we could kayak or paddle-board for some fun! Once it starts to get dark, we could sit back down and watch the sunset. <3
What’s your favorite Filipino food?
My favorite Filipino food would have to be lumpia. My aunt cooks a delicious vegetable lumpia that I love! During the Diskubre tour, I learned there’s so many different kinds of lumpia (I was shook), and I would love to try them all!
What are the top 5 places to visit on your bucket list?
I was able to travel all over Luzon, but two places I would like to visit that’s on my bucket list are Mindanao and Visayas in the Philippines.
